At Dealavo, the terms EAN (European Article Number) and SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) are commonly used. While both are used to identify products, they differ in function and application. Below, we explain the differences.
What is an EAN?
EAN, or European Article Number, is a standard barcode used worldwide to identify products. It consists of 13 or 8 digits and is assigned by the GS1 organization. EANs are primarily used in retail for scanning products at checkout and tracking inventory. EAN codes are often required by Dealavo in the product feed to search for sellers’ offers.
What is an SKU?
SKU, or Stock Keeping Unit, is a unique identifier assigned to products by the seller or manufacturer. It is created internally by the company and can be of any length or format. SKUs typically include product information such as color or size.
When signing a contract with Dealavo, a SKU limit is defined — this is the number of SKUs the client can provide in the product feed for monitoring. In the Counter Price package, 1 SKU = 1 EAN. In the Smart Price package, 1 SKU can have multiple EANs.
